Promo codes

Promo codes, on the rules you set

Create a code, like WELCOME, with its discount and its conditions. The customer enters it when ordering takeaway, and Restoman works out the total, the tip and the uses.

A code applies to the whole order, never to a single dish. A use counts once the order is paid, and comes back if you cancel it.

Short answer

In Restoman each business creates its own promo codes: a percentage or a fixed amount off the whole order, with an optional minimum order, dates, maximum uses and the locations where it works. The customer enters it under "Have a code?" when ordering takeaway, and the discount comes off before they pay with Mercado Pago.

Why keep promo codes in the system

A promotion run by hand ends with a code that keeps working after it was supposed to end, discounts nobody can count, or a server doing the math on the spot. With codes in Restoman, the rules enforce themselves.

  1. 01 Restoman does the math The discount comes off the whole order, never a single dish, and never takes off more than was ordered.
  2. 02 Uses, counted A use counts once the order is paid. If you cancel a paid order, the use comes back.
  3. 03 On every order The counter and each order's details show the code and how much it took off, and the sales summary subtracts it.

How to set up a code

Under "Menu", the "Discounts" tab lists the business's codes. "New code" asks for the code, 3 to 20 letters and numbers, and the discount type; the rest is optional.

  1. 01 Percentage or fixed amount 10% or $5,000 off, on what the customer ordered.
  2. 02 Minimum order The order has to reach that amount, before the discount, for the code to work.
  3. 03 Dates and maximum uses "From" and "Until", in the location's time, and how many paid orders can use it.
  4. 04 Where it works If you have several locations, check the ones it works at. Check none and it works at all of them.

What to know before you launch one

A badly thought-out code can give away more than you meant to. Restoman sets a few limits so that doesn't happen, and makes it clear who can touch the codes.

  1. 01 Free orders, capped If a code can bring an order to zero (100% off, or a fixed amount with no higher minimum), it must have maximum uses.
  2. 02 Tip comes after The tip is worked out on what's left after the discount and added at the end.
  3. 03 On and off The "Active" switch turns it off or on at once. Codes are never deleted: each order keeps showing the code it used.
  4. 04 Who manages them The owner and admins create them; the accountant can see them. Restoman's support never creates or changes a code.
