A screen for the kitchen's iPad

The kitchen gets a screen of its own, across the whole iPad and without the dashboard's menu: the location's clock, selling out a dish in two taps, and high contrast for bright kitchens.

Sell out:

Short answer

Restoman's kitchen screen fills the iPad and, today, lets the kitchen sell out dishes and options without leaving the line: a search, a switch per dish and until when. Tickets on that screen are coming soon; until then, the kitchen works from the ticket the counter prints.

Why the kitchen needs its own screen

Whoever is on the grill is the first to know something ran out, and the last with time to walk over to the counter and say so. With the screen in the kitchen, they mark it right there and the menu stops offering it.

  1. 01 Sold out where it runs out The kitchen marks it on the spot, without passing the word along: the location's menu shows it sold out at once.
  2. 02 Nothing in the way It fills the iPad, without the dashboard's menu. "Dashboard", at the top left, takes you back to the rest.
  3. 03 The location's clock At the top right, the time in the location's time zone, the same one its hours and orders go by.

How to sell out a dish in two taps

"Sell out a dish" opens a window over the screen with every dish on the location's menu. Search, choose until when and switch it off.

  1. 01 Search By part of a dish's or an option's name: "fries" finds the fries, wherever they're offered.
  2. 02 Until when "Until tomorrow" brings it back at the next service on its own; "Until I reactivate it" keeps it sold out until someone offers it again.
  3. 03 One option, across every dish A side is sold out once and stops being offered on every dish that has it. The row says how many.
  4. 04 Sold out now At the bottom, "N sold out now" shows what's sold out and until when. Switching it back on offers it again.

Made for a real kitchen

Kitchens have harsh light, busy hands and an iPad that sits in one spot for hours. The screen is built for that.

  1. 01 High contrast A black background, pure white text and strong borders. It stays that way on that iPad until you tap it again.
  2. 02 Stays awake The screen asks the iPad not to sleep while it's open, and tells you if the browser won't allow it.
  3. 03 Tickets on screen, coming soon Today the ticket prints at the counter. Later on, each ticket will also show up on this screen, in order of arrival and with how long it has waited.
